Beaches and Park

The Sunset Shores neighborhood has two private beaches and a tree lined park.  The SSPOA deeded park is part of  a larger 8+ acre plot of land that is mostly wetlands with  a creek that separates the playground from the wetlands.

Private Beaches

The Sunset Shores neighborhood  has two private beaches to be enjoyed by all property owners.    These two beaches are deeded to all  landowners in Sunset Shores without riparian rights.

Unfortunately these beaches have been comprised by erosion over the years.  Community Beach #1 does have some beach/sand area and we should all be aware of the  common sense community rules :

  • Hours of operation are sunrise to 11:00 PM
  • No lifeguard on duty…swim at your own risk
  • Think GREEN! If you brought it, remove it
  • NO FIREWORKS
  • Fires strictly prohibited
  • Be neighborly. Keep noise levels to a minimum
  • Stay off retaining shore rocks, they are extremely dangerous
  • Keep dogs on leash at all times and pick-up droppings
  • Cooperate with beach security. Rules enforced
  • It is everyone’s responsibility to help keep the beach safe and clean. Leave only your footprints

Schulz Park

  • The park is  owned/deeded to the association and is located at Water Street and Shore Drive .
  • The total  deeded parkland area is over 8 acres with a a significant portion apportioned to wetlands.
  • The park was deeded to the SSPOA from the developer Peter Kerhulas.  Per the deed, the developer was very specific about the use of the park:   It must remain an active and actual playground.  And per the deed a violation of this stipulation could result in the return of the land to the heirs of the developer Kerhulas.
  • The Park was dedicated  to the Schulz Family who once lived in our neighborhood and were great stewards of the  park.  They mowed it weekly with a push mower:  sometimes the father mowed, sometimes the sons mowed - but it always got done.
  • There is an active "parks committee"  working on improvements and considering future additions to the park which will be communicated as they formalize these recommendations.     There are pictures of some recent changes to the Park under the tab "What's Happening" pictures.
